Excalibur sure don't make them like they use to ..

Check out that blower motor, has oil ports, I think it a 1000 watt unit like my old Equi-Flow.

Matter of fact, I think its the same unit ... hmmm .... looks like there was some corporate merging or buy-out long ago.

Went from wood and steel cabinet to plastic .... oh well.

I went with the Excalibur 9 tray after reading so many good reviews here, and on other forums.

Once it arrived, a little bit of me was disappointed in the nearly all plastic construction. Even more so once I saw how damn simple the rest of the thing is. I just paid $150 for this?

Don't get me wrong, it works just fine and I have no complaints about it. Perhaps the simplicity will work out for me if I need to facilitate any repairs on it.

I would imagine that it has less that $50 worth of parts in it, the rest is just mark up as it moves along the supply chain.

You know that could be, only $50 in parts...but I still couldn't make it myself too handily...and if I did I bet I'd have more the $50 in parts in a DIY dehydrator that works as good as the Excalibur.

Granted it is all plastic construction, but it is quality plastic, and yes there is such a thing. You can feel the difference in it and the cheaper plastic on a nesco dehydrator.

The simple fact for me is that it works, it works awesome as a matter of fact, and if it ever does break I can fix it myself with replacement parts from excalibur.

Unless you live in a humid part of the country, then its a Mold Fungus Maker 4000 ...

Cool solution, but I wouldn't take that over a commercial dehydrator. No way to control the heat, unless you rig up some sort of heater too.

Unless the outside conditions are just right I think it would be a Mold Maker 4000. I can dehydrate day or night with the excalibur, even if the conditions are less then optimal because its fully enclosed, on a humid day I just turn the timer to run for 10 hours instead of 8...

Mold maker might be true... but I guess there's really only one way to find out.
